Top Secret was a brand found in literal secrecy. By day, Kazuhiko Smokey Nagata worked at Trust, the parent company for GReddy, but by night he worked on engineering parts for his own cars and eventually taking on projects for others under the shroud of darkness.
Smokey Nagata and the Legend of the Doubleton Run At a little past 4am, Smokey put the pedal to the metal and brought his heavily modified, 1,003bhp Toyota Supra and careened down the highway.
Kicking each one off with a massive, tire-warming burnout (hence the nickname, ‘Smokey’), Nagata tried his best to surpass the psychological limit of 200 mph but couldn’t. Be it that the hood almost became loose on one run or that the car ran lean on another, he simply couldn’t get there but he did reach 194 mph.
Smokey is mostly known for founding the Japanese company Top Secret which over the years has produced successful drift cars that have won various events all over the world. Besides drifting they made seriously high performance cars like the Supra in the video below that was shipped over to the UK.
Toyota Supra Smoky Nagata: I really liked my first demo car which was an R32 GTR. But by far my favorite has to be the V12 Toyota Supra.
According to a documentary aired about the car, Smokey was furious with Toyota for not bringing out a successor to the MK4 Supra. He wanted to build something that would make them sit up and take notice.
Japanese tuner, Top Secret, and its owner, ‘Smoky’ Nagata, have built some of the most famous performance cars in the JDM scene. There are several legendary Japanese tuners out there, but Kazuhiko ‘Smoky’ Nagata is in a league of his own. At just 16 years old, Nagata joined Toyota as a mechanic.
222 mph Reportedly, the twin turbo V12 Top Secret Supra, driven by Smokey, achieved a top speed of 222 mph (358 km/h) at Nardo. While certainly a mind-numbing velocity, it falls just a tad short of the 248 mph (400 km/h) goal.
Japanese domestic market Japanese domestic market (JDM) refers to Japan’s home market for vehicles. For the importer, these terms refer to vehicles and parts designed to conform to Japanese regulations and to suit Japanese buyers.
At around 4am on November 4, 1998, Kazuhiko ‘Smokey’ Nagata pulled off the hard shoulder into lane two of the A1(M) and came to a stop. With rain falling and the mercury hovering just above freezing, he pinned the throttle, dropped the clutch and performed a monstrous burnout in the middle of the road.
While it was previously estimated at about $500,000, the car was sold at an auction in January this year for approximately $80,700. … Gallery: Top Secret Toyota Supra Auction.

Toyota has just started testing of a new racing variant of the 2020 GR Supra, this time for Japan’s GT300 racing series. What makes this racer particularly special is the fact that it features a V8 engine. As we all know, the street-legal 2020 Supra uses a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder with 335 hp.
The Toyota 1GZ-FE engine is a quad-cam, naturally-aspirated, water-cooled, V-type, twelve-cylinder gasoline engine produced by the Toyota Motor Corporation from 1997 until 2016. This engine is Toyota’s only V12 to come out and is mainly sold in the Japanese market.
As the story goes, the beast came out at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show and is the creation of Kazuhiko Nagata from the Japanese tuning house Top Secret. Its 5.0-liter V12 engine comes from the Century, a super-expensive luxury limo that Toyota built just because it could.
